SMW - Semantic MediaWiki

Wotcher! I have requested this extension for the wiki. I think it's a brilliant opportunity to incorporate it early on in the wiki. In brief, it's a way of linking related topics together, similar to categories, but more sophisticated - and to act as search terms too. Essentially you can assign properties to your pages, as well as categories. See http://semantic-mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Introduction_to_Semantic_MediaWiki for user guides, introduction etc. Er, don't think I'm running away with the wiki or anything, I *was* going to invite objections, but as I was typing it occured to me that anyone who doesn't like it isn't obliged to use it, but those who do like it will be able to make good use of it, and the sooner the request is in, the quicker I can use it for skills! *rubs hands gleefully* So I don't think I'm putting anyone out by just going ahead with it. Pfft, go nuts! TherionandAlts 21:27, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Viewing this page on non-widescreen (I'm at 1024x768) resolutions makes the columns too narrow. Perhaps we should move the Helping Out column to the bottom of the page, or make it narrower? TherionandAlts 22:10, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I've got a list of things to fix on it, mostly to do with silly column widths and different browsers. It's partly those that I need access to the CSS bits to fix. Have asked them but no answer yet.
I've asked on the helpdesk forum about this. The problem is they want you to use the main page tags, so the ads will fit in and not interfere with the rest of the content. But the main page tags include a fixed width column (that right hand 'Helping Out' column). I think the solution will involve ditching the pre-set columns, and just making sure that the design incorporates spaces for the ads. I'll make changes as before, on a 'proposed main page' - don't want to break the real one while I'm testing! :p Elwynd 09:14, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
